qurban Programme

What is Qurban?

Qurbani means sacrifice. Every year during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – a goat, sheep, cow or camel – to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of God.

At least one third of the meat from the animal must go to poor or vulnerable people. Traditionally, a Muslim would keep one third of the meat for their family and give the final third to their neighbours.

The significance of Qurbani

The practice of Qurbani can be traced back to the Prophet Ibrahim, who dreamed that God ordered him to sacrifice his only son, Ismail. In his devotion to God, Ibrahim agreed to follow his dream and perform the sacrifice. But God intervened and sent a ram to be sacrificed in Ismail’s place.

Qurban

On Eid Ul Adha, which marks the completion of the annual Hajj, the Muslim world celebrates and honours the tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim (Alleihi Salaam) by sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat to those in need.

Qurbani teaches us obedience, devotion and promotes the idea of helping other Muslim brothers and sisters. The meat from Qurbani is divided into three portions; one for the family, one for the neighbour and one for the poor. Islam preaches about neighbours’ rights and of those who live in poverty. Qurbani, therefore, serves as a means to look out for the poor and the needy.

The Qurbani programme by Qurban Afrcia Group has been designed from the ground up, based on the teachings of Qurban. As per the programme, Qurban Afrcia Group undertakes the responsibility of distributing fresh meat in some of the most vulnerable regions in East African countries. These packages provide each household with enough meat to last a whole week.

Eid Gifts

Every year at the time of Eid ul Adha, we provide Eid gifts for children in the most needy areas. These presents include clothes, shoes, sweets and toys, and special events are also organised during the days of Eid to bring some happiness into the lives of these youngsters.
